points/condenser parts number help

Post by PaulB »

Hi folks, I am looking for the current part numbers (at Napa/O'Reilly/etc.) for points and condenser for my '51 M38. It is the original 24volt system. I can't seem to find an old post with this information.

Thanks for the help...

A lot of the cross reference data will show all internal parts the same between MB, M38, M38A1/M170 but that is not entirely true. Safe bet is to just use your M38 or M38A1 ORD 9 parts manual (download it free here on our "Downloads" page) and research your distributor parts starting with the correct auto-lite or delco part number.

The three Auto-Lite distributors used in the M38/M38A1/M170 from 1950 thru 1971 are much the same except for advance curves (springs & weights) and the first distributor used an external noise filter (capacitor) mounted on the firewall and had a different conduit connection at the distributor.

I have used Dennis Spence's 1980 guide for years but if you do your homework you will find the errors.

If the book wasn't copyrighted I would posts scans of all the pages in mine with their updates and corrections.

Buzz shot you a PM, just wanted to make sure you got it.

Also I picked up the AL69 and they are the wrong rotors, see link below.

What is the number for the correct one?

Thanks again for the assistance!
