M38 Steering Box Sector Shaft and Pitman Arm

Post by Rotorhead »

Should a new pitman arm slide easily onto a new sector shaft? Are they murphy-proof, or are there different types of each that could be inadvertently swapped? I purchased two new parts and the splines don't seem to mate easily.

In today's repop supply system you can only hope two parts from the same manufacturer will fit together. Good example are the MD Juan tubs and windshield. Buy a pair and 8 times out of 10 they do not fit well with each other.

If both your parts were US built then they should fit together reasonably well. If not then trouble is a common issue. There should be a small bit of interference fit to prevent any looseness after assembly. Small bit would mean less than a 1/4th of a spline width miss-alignment.
