Hi guys, thru a bit of steel, welding and paint I am trying to transform my wrangler to look like a military vehicle. In the future as funds allow I will be grafting a 9slot grill to the front and probably a blackout light to the fender.
I plan on putting unit markings on the bumpers; my question is this, non-photo blue, white or black for the unit markings? Any opinions will be appreciated.
First off let me assure you that all MV attempts both real and imitation can be discussed here. Though it would really take a lot of time and money to fool a board member with a wrangler MV derivative. Good luck on that.
Blue is for early WWII lettering. White is the most common from the end of WWII to present. Black is found on the camo paint jobs and Vietnam era carc paint jobs. Get yourself copies of AR 850-5, and TB 746-93-1 form one of the web sites that have them loaded in PDF or from Portrayal Press. _________________ Wes K

no attempt what so ever to fool anyone, having owned a few 2a's, 3a's, 3b's and such, I like the look of flatfender jeeps. I wanted to have the look in my daily driver vehicle. Creating my own flat front fenders, and m-715 style rear fenderflares, I wanted to create something different.
I was hoping someone would look at the pic's and make a sugestion as to what color they think is best. Actualy hoping for alot of opinions to form a consenus. this group knows alot more about military vehicles than I do.
I would value any input. so please take a few seconds to look at the pic's and give me your $.02 worth.
thanks.

Interesting concept - take elements of the flat fenders and use them in a modern vehicle. Too bad Jeep hasn't figured out the appeal of the flat fenders and redisgned ones like that. The 4 door Wrangler is nice though.
My own 2 cents worth is to take what ever you like and use that. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the digital camo, although the USMC version is nice. If you want a WWII/Korean War feel, go OD Green and white lettering. If you like the modern look and are using some sort of digital camo, black lettering is a must. My ACU (digital uniforms) all have black lettering. I have seen other US military digitals with non-black on an ACU-style pattern and it looks odd, makes the letters hard to read.
But adding the Pioneering kit would be a nice and useful touch too.

Very nice! I like it. I have a 2001 Wrangler, Dark Blue and would like a military look. I settled for removing the Sport and 4.0 labels and the plastic bumpers and replaced them with solid steel.

thans for the positive replies on my paint job, I have decided to go with black for the unit markings. I will paint them, the undercarage and the wheels, when I get a nice day as I have to paint ouitside.
