I've been lurking on this board for a long time and this is my first attempt at contacting everyone. Hope it all works out ok.
Picked up a really nice M38 a couple of weeks ago and it has a civilian carburator on it that I'd like to replace with an oringinal. A good usable carb would be ideal but even a core would help at this point.
Thanks,
Paul |

Hey,
Welcome to the board.
Used YS carbs can be hard to find sometimes. I know that several of the parts guys have rebuilt ones and occasionally a NOS one. With the new fuels it is best to get new gaskets, etc. on carbs and fuel/vacuum pumps.
I got my carb through Army Jeep parts and it has run well so far. _________________ Ryan Miller

If you can afford over $300 plus the core value then go straight to AJP or MWSM for an overhauled outright unit. Then you don't have to fool around with a project carb. If you aren't in that big a hurry to get into restoration competition then run your civvy carb and bide your time and a YS637S will show up reasonably priced sooner or later.
Don't confuse the M38's YS637S with the M38A1/M170's YS950S.

Thanks for the welcome. I really appreciate it. Great photo of the M38 and A1 carbs together, Wes. I talked to AJP and the guy was very rigid in his policy of not selling M38 carbs without getting a core back. You're right, one will turn up eventually. I'm just starting the restoration on this vehicle so I have a lot of time. Guess I was lucky getting a carb for the last M38 I restored but that was a few years ago.
