Recently there was an M38 for sale on eBay, and in one of the pictures I could see an M38A1 handbrake lever mounted on the left front corner of the toolbox (as in the A1). The dash brake handle was missing, but the hole and indent was there. Forgive my ignorance, but were some late M38s fitted with the A1 handbrake as standard issue? _________________ Support our troops, past and present.

But if you have the A1 set-up in your junk box they work real well on the M38, CJ2/3 and CJ5 if assembled correctly with all worn out pieces replaced or rebushed. _________________ Wes K

Thanks for the reply Wes! I didn't remember ever seeing that before, but then there is still plenty I don't know about the M38. I appreciate the information. _________________ Support our troops, past and present.

I've done exactly that . . . mounted the complete A1 emergency brake assembly in my M38 tub. Works flawlessly if you have all the parts. _________________ Galen
