Sounds like from your experience it may be possible to rotate the head either way to put the suction on the right side. I took some pictures of mine. I will download one shortly.

I'm still having idle issues when the engine is hot. No backfire just dies. I installed rebuilt fuel pump(then & now), carter ys carb(debellas), new coil, condenser, rotor, points(.020)(Debellas). Throttle shaft is not worn or have exessive play. Rerouted fuel line to avoid vapor lock.
Heat riser closed position. Still dies on me Evil or Very Mad

Ordered new 2243 plugs, will install when they arrive(.030).
What would the correct ohm reading be for the spark plug wires? Maybe one or more are bad when temp. rises in engine compartment.

Any other advice?
