If the tag says Willys Industrial Engine then that is probably what you have. If you want an educated answer then you'll have to climb out of the chair and go into the garage and write down the casting number of the block, the casting number of the head, the serial number of the block and give us at least a photo of the left side of the engine.
These photos will help you with your info search:
This is the L134 flat head engine. The head casting number is on top near the front under the oil filter bracket.
This is the F134 "F" head engine. The "F" is about the valve layout and does not stand for "Flathead". The four intake valves are in the head just like a modern OHV (over head valve) engine but the 4 exhaust valves are still in the block like a flat head. The serial number is in the same place as the L134 on the small flat above the water pump. _________________ Wes K

I know the difference in a f head and flat head. Ive had jeeps for years and have a number of military vehicles now. the tag on the engine says willys overland motor inc, then jeep industrial engine, ..eng assy # 809080 serial # r1md61105 and this is the number stamped on the block as well the vin # is md75247 the block casting # is 806278-w-12-d-ar then a cu cr. if any of this translates to anything I sure would be interested to know. so far everything on it is from something else. thanks any help is appreciated. mike |

The M38A1/M170 F134 did not have a metal stamped tag on it at all coming from Willys/Kaiser. The metal stamped tag/plates were used for industrial engines and overhauled engines not factory new F134's installed in jeep chassis.
As I said above if you have an Industrial engine plate on it then it was an industrial engine or was depot unit overhauled as an industrial engine.
I am guessing it was a military depot rebuild. The serial you post if it was found on the flat above the water pump does not fit any known serial formats from Willys. If the 1 between the R & M is a typo then the engine was original a RMD61105 Willys factory replacement engine for a M38A1 or M170 and was either used as the basis for a military supplied industrial powerplant application or was converted by the military to an idustrial power plant application. I could not find any listing for engine assembly PN 809080 in any of the M38A1 pubs nor in my CJ3B and Kaiser industrial engine parts lists. _________________ Wes K

the number stamped on the boss and the one on the tag are the same. it looks like an original factory tag it is different than the depot tags I have on dodge engines. so I guess its a industrial then. thanks for the info evertyhing else has been off why not this. thanks mike |

Hello Mike,
A RMDXXXXX engine would have been a brand new factory replacement engine set up for installation in an M38A1 or M170.
A R1MDXXXXX engine would have been a factory new replacement industrial engine based on the MD engine but set up for industrial use.
This was also done during production of the M38 engines where there were many brand new RMCXXXXX engines found installed in many PE95's.
Do you belong to the Red Bull or Red Arrow MV clubs?
