It is welded in place at the cowl... actually spot welded to the lip around it...
It does not come off... Normally...
You have to work around it...

In this photo of an old box cut from the cowl you can see 4 spot welds along the top edge.
Here you can see 2 of the spot welds.
You drill out these spot welds on all four sides at the top of the box then unbolt the dash brackets, remove wires from circuit breaker trio if early M38 and remove any drain tubes/hoses or straps between the front of the box and the firewall. _________________ Wes K
