Completely tore down my engine and pressure cleaned it (hot water pressure cleaner with special soap). Blasted through all the water and oil galleys until the water came out clean. I then checked the rod and main journals and cylinder bore with a micrometer and bore gauge. Found out that it has been rebuilt at least once. Mains are +.010, rods are +.020 and cylinder bore is +.030 but all is in great shape. Cross hatching is still visible in the cylinders from the last rebuild. Valves, guides and seats are perfect, removed and hand lapped the valves and reinstalled. Reinstalled crank with new bearings and checked end play need about. 004 shims. I installed new brass freeze plugs and waiting to get shim pack and new crank pulley so I can check it again. I also chased the threads on all the studs and holes in the block. I have a complete gasket set but I'm wondering if a solid copper head gasket is worth putting in.
I wouldn't use a solid metal gasket unless the head has been resurfaced and the block decked.
I think you mean the rods are - .020 and the mains are - .010 _________________ Wes K
