I had to pull the oil pan and rear main cap to replace the flywheel bolts. I am using a rope seal. The civilian manual says
" When installing the rear main bearing cap in the crankcase, place a small amount of plastic type gasket cement on both sides and face of the cap to prevent oil leakage."
It then goes on to talk about the two rubber packings that go vertically in the holes at the edge of the cap and black.
My question is what is the best type of gasket sealant to use as mentioned above. I am unsure of what a plastic type gasket cement is. I don't think a silicon type gasket sealer would be good near all the oil passages.
I don't see anything mentioned about putting any type of sealant on the rubber packings so would guess the crush that occurs when you put the cap back on expands them to seal the area.
