My M38 appears at one time to have had the front axle, springs, steering and hubs painted yellow and the brake drums all around painted white. Was this done by any known agency or department? _________________ Gary

No military agency. It was common for jeeps used on the flightlines to be painted yellow and often got a bit of yellow overspray on the chassis components but what you describe is more like a civilian owner painting the chassis and axles on his rock crawler. _________________ Wes K

If the jeep was an Air Force jeep it would had 2 coats of OD 2430 first. Then if it was used for flightline work it may have received a coat of yellow then if it was still in USAF service in the mid to late 50's it would have been repainted Strata Blue when it ended it's flightline service. Hood numbers would have been first flat white, then black and then yellow. _________________ Wes K

It was rebuilt by Japan Ord Command so it's only bits that have (had) yellow underneath, grill stay bar, wings, the odd bumperett, around lifting shackles. Not the whole jeep.
I imagine it was rebuilt from a large pile of donors!
hey ho,
Dave.
