Caught the covid on saturday- didn't know I was sick till Tuesday morning, and felt like I got hit by a truck for 2 days. All better with exception of smell and taste- that's gone now.

I'm sure my house smells like pine sol, but I can't tell.

Put the thermostat housing in the ultrasonic cleaner to get the gunk out.

The fording valves I ordered from Midwest military came in too. Gotta clean the cosmoline off.

Isn’t it crazy buying something and it arrives, you unpack it and realize the last time it saw daylight was when it was packed at the factory?

I am on leave (was presplanned prior to covid illness) today and tomorrow.

I was outside at 10am and I was putting the finals on my engine. I was sweating so bad it looked like I was running from the cops. I got the carb situated, thermostat on and that's it before I called it quits. I was not feeling okay.

No covid symptoms remain but loss of taste and smell. Bit I got so uncomfortable I decided it was enough.

Maybe later when the sun sets I might go out, or in the AM.

A far reaching plan could be to shakedown drive this jeep on Friday. We shall see how I feel.

Probably not a good time to go through the leftovers in the fridge…

The wife makes ME smell the milk.

I tend to favor Shiner Bock or Fat Tire lately.....

Something looks odd about your oil filter mounting bracket.
Maybe it's just the angle of the photos.......

Get well soon!

Hi April,
Are you going to pre-oil the engine to prime the oil pump before firing it up the first time?

Here's a post on the topic.
I used the same method that RickG used about halfway down the second page.
Worked good. Instant oil pressure on start up.

Good luck!

Interested to see how you mount the fording cable bracket on the right side of the cowl with the non-spec rain drip edge.

Maybe it can go under the lip of the cowl?

That drip edge sure seems like a good idea.

Thanks for the shout out on the pre oil Ron! Seems like that was forever ago. Since that time i've switched to the proper Cuno and YS637.

Used that slick process to prelude the engine. Used a piece of brake line (unused) to be my pickup tube. Hand pumped it to a gallery hole where I have my lube oil pressure gauge attached.

Oil made its way to the oil filter assembly pretty quick. Didn't see any leaks from this process.

Am at harbor freight picking up a cotter pin set so I can hook up my throttle and I can give the start switch a try today.

Hooked up choke, throttle, fuel line (temp) and primed.

Gave her a little hot sauce and turned the key.

https://youtube.com/shorts/AZ8JKrrG19A?feature=share

Need to adjust fuel and air but she starts.

Didn't run long. Found an oil leak at bottom of my oil filter. I have to take a bunch out to get to it, do it will be another day. I was too tired to keep going right now.

Nice!
How was the oil pressure reading?

Looking at the short YT video of your start-up, I see what looks like a square-headed brass plug in the top of your carburetor, on the back side of the air horn near the top.

That port is normally plumbed with a hard line to the port on the side of the crossover tube.
In other words, it's supposed to be open to atmosphere --- not plugged.

I believe the carb will show problems with it plugged.
Until you get it plumbed to the crossover, I recommend removing the plug.
Figure 23 on page 107 of TM9-8012 shows it well.

If you don't want to roll your own vent lines, one of the members here (Hal) makes them.
They're very nice. I bought mine from him.
Because of variations in M38 vent systems, and Salty doesn't have vacuum wipers, you don't need a complete set.
He has a well-described menu to choose only what you need.

You are correct Ron. That's your bowl vent April and yes it must be open.

Thank you. Good to know. I didn't know and I didn't see it in the manuals I have.

I picked up a 3/16 brake line to bend one up. I may contact that gentleman to make me custom ones. I've never been good at bending tunes.

Remnants of the hurricane passed thru yesterday so I didn't do anything outside, just played PS4.
I plan to get outside and hook up that tube and start fixing that oil leak I have.

Oil PSI was 60+ when I looked at the gauge, but I saw oil leaking too fast to verify. I Brown material her down and closed up shop and went to take a nap cause I was too tired.

Will let you all know how it goes today.
