Our M38 filter housing is black, with a decal on it.
Vehicle came from an Indian technical school over
in Oklahoma and had 8K miles when purchased. I
subspect the gubbermint gave it to the school.
My filter canister has "Standard Military Filter" forged or stamped in the top of it.
A question I have is, Is there difference in size between the Military Jr. canister and the Standard Military canister?
All I know is that the drain plug on the Standard canister is on the engine block side, that is the same side as the inlet port. It drains on the engine block.

Hello Ken,
They are all three called Military Standard filters. They carry their application in their third name.
Military Standard Junior for engines up to 225 Cu. In's.
Military Standard Senior (strap mounted) for engines from 225 to 300 Cu. In's.
Military Standard Senior (base mounted)
single filter base engines of 225 to 334 Cu. In's.
double filter base engines of 335 to 709 Cu. In's.
triple filter base engines of 710 to 799 Cu In's.
Both of the seniors are several inches taller than the junior. _________________ Wes K
