Spring Question

Post by idiocrates »

On my right front spring the two bundle straps on the rear half of the spring refuse to stay in place. I hammer them back forward where they are supposed to be but as soon as I go anywhere and return they are slid to the back of the spring and hanging loose. Does anybody know how to tighten these straps? Is it a job one can do "at home"? Are new straps available cause it looks to me like if I try to straighten out the bend-over tabs they are probably going to break off. If you're interested you can see a picture of the straps at this location:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The straps on my springs have rivets that hold them in place.

A temporary fix might be to use some galvanized
stranded wire looped around the spring-to-axle bolts,
through each shackle and loop it, then drive them into
place, tighten up the wire, and twist it around the shackle
furtherest from the axle. One wire should suffice.
I'd only consider this temporary until a better fix is
found.
