Hello,
i see 3 different types on the f-head.
the two are the military with the older and newer washers.and the newer to be at 1/16" thickness.
and the cifilian without washers on the head bolts!!!!!!!
it's very difficult to find new head bolts here.so i bought some grade8 4-1/2".i will cut the remaining to make it 4-1/4".
the question is,to use or not the washers.found 1/16" thicness grade8.
without the washers the bolt would go deeper to the block and perform a better sealing and more bolt threads to the block less stress to the block threads.i just replaced the back hook block thread with a solid one.
am i right?
thanks
George

The M38A1 eventually dropped the 1/8" thick washer and went with the 1/16" washer. A hardened grade 8 cadmium or zinc plated washer 1/16" thick x 15/32" ID x 15/16" OD would work just fine.
