removing air filter element?

Post by TonyMorreale »

M38 NOS air cleaner: I know this has to be fairly simple...I loosen the wing screw (mine doesn't come all the way out) on the bottom of the element but the filter element holds fast. I twist and wiggle the element back and forth but it doesn't budge. I don't want to break anything. Is there a trick to getting it out?

Tony,

It should come right off the rod. It may be rusted a little at the top or the preservative many NOS stuff is coated in has dried up and preventing its movement.

I would clean it/soak it well with laquer thinner and if that does not work, soak it in some oil for a day or two and then try to twist it.

Thanks Ryan - it figures it would be something like that: easy. I'm doing an oil change today so I'll try as you suggest and see what happens.
