paint question

I getting ready to get my tub and frame sand blasted etc, where can i find the right color for my 51 m38,and what primer would you all use. Thanks Jeff. Tenn

The correct Willys factory color through the mid 50s for both the M38 and the M38A1/M170 is 2430 which is no longer produced and is not currently offered as a reproduction. The closest color is Gillespie's 23070 or Army Jeep Parts Late WWII OD. These are for all practical purposes the same color. By adding just a wee bit tint of brown you can have the correct color.

Or you can take a hunk of paint sample from a well preserved area of your jeep and have a local paint supplier put together something that matches.

As for primer the correct answer here is first choose the top coat that gives you the color and sheen you want then go with a quality primer the producer of your top coat approves for use with his paint.

If it's the 55 and newer US Army field applied paint that looks almost chocolate brown then you can get the same outfit's 24087. For USAF use Styrata Blue, for USMC use Forest Green and for USN use Gray.
