M38CDN serial number

Hello All,

I have a question for Wes and all M38CDN'ers across Canada and USA. A friend of mine bought recently a M38CDN but this jeep doesn't has the titles, data plates and consequently the serial number is unknown (probably the previous owners slashed the metal to put in their Corn-Flakes

).

Seriously, the Canadian Force Registration number (stamped on the driver side frame between the bumper and the grill) is still visible and is 52-31297. Is it possible to have de SN with this information?

Your serial number is only going to be an estamate...

The CAR number does not correspond to a serial number directly...

From looking at the Database in the Downloads section your number could be anything from 100 to 0 off your CAR Number...

You can go to the Data base and estimate your number from others...

Your date of delivery should be approximately very late 6/52 or 7/52... as your CAR number is only 16 from mine (52-31313)...

I have a 1952 CDN but my frame # has been welded over all I have is 52-3 I do have my serial # plates can I get the 52-3 # from this

Can you cut the welds with a dremel and carefully remove the metal welded over the CAR. I did that with mine and the numbers were underneath.

Also the CAR number would have been stencilled on the R/H and L/H side of the jeep just below the doorway. If you sand the paint in this area carefully you might uncover the original numbers underneath. Also some M38CDNs had them stencilled on each side of the hood.

I see you have a PE95 gen set. Which of these air cleaners best matches your?

I'll put the three filters here together for an easier way to determine what looks like what.

Pete's is a modified WWII MB air cleaner. When his is bolted to the firewall the air outlet port faces the MB's carb or in his photo the PE95 engine's carb.

Now look closely at mine. With my bottom bowl clips facing forward like Pete's and my tamped lettering facing forward like Pete's my air outlet faces away from the engine.

This is a late WWII MB air cleaner with the raised stamped lettering. Not Pete's look just like this with the added shroud. Mine does not.

Now the folks that have responded say the WWII PE-95 air cleaner is basically a WWII MB air cleaner so that means that even though Pete's PE-95K is a early 1950 unit it still has the air cleaner based on the WWII MB and is not like mine.
