Mashed Head gasket

Post by Scott21 »

The cause of the head gasket failure is the threads in the block are gone. They were held in with some sort of sealer or glue. Can I helicoil the striped threads?

I would prefer to use a solid threaded insert rather than the standard heli-coil for better holding power.

Hi,
One of the best quality threaded inserts are made by Fairchild. I have used them in similar applications. They have a special design for retention. Available both metric and SAE sizes.
