New Guy Needing Help

Hey Everyone

My dad has owned jeeps all my life. He recently gave me one. I have no idea how to determine the model. I looks like a small one used in WWII or maybe Korea. It has a right side spare tire. The windshield is solid across and there is an airvent in the middle. It has a tailgate. Any help will be appreciated.

I was thinking the same, or maybe a cj3b? What are some of the characteristics of the cj3a that I did not mention. What years were the cj3a/cj3b made? Thanks for your respose.

The 3A had the same shape of hood as WWII Jeeps and the M38. The 3B had a taller side portion on the hood sides (the vertical surface) and the windshield frame was shortened accordingly. The hood modification was to accommodate the taller F head engine.

If the Jeep is basically a 3A, the windshield vent will fold out, hinged at is top. The M38 has the same vent, but it is either in or removed, it doesn't tilt out on a hinge.

Is there no title or data plates?

It must be a 3A. The vent is hinged in the middle of the windshield and pushes out. There appears to be an axe or some other tool holder on the driver's side rear.

I'm not a 3A guy, but I think that bracket on the LR 1/4 panel is part of the top bow (frame) storage system. They are different from the military models. Can you post some photos?

Thanks much! Yes, my jeep is definitely a CJ3A. The only thing that I notice on my jeep is the (what I call) axe holder on the diver's side back quarter panel. I don't know what that is, but everything points to the CJ3A model. BTW, I am a member of Buggies Unlimited Golf Cart Forum (I have a golf cart that I converted into a mudslinging hunting buggy) and as a veteran forum member I say that you guys obviously do a great job. Keep up the good work.
