Data Plates

Post by Ryan_Miller »

Subject M series data plates
Status: reproduction
Source: Army Jeep Parts/ Midwest Military

Review:
I bought the fording data plate for my M38

Appearance:
Looks just like a NOS plate I have.

Fit/Function:
Fit correctly with the hole centered.

Summary:
The NOS plate I bought a few years back turned out to be from a batch of plates with the cable hole a little lower than it was supposed to be. Not every NOS item is correct and some are still around because they were a mistake.
The reproduction plate I bought looks and fits great and is indistinguishable from an original in lettering, size and fit.

I will probably by the whole set for my jeep.

Rating: 10 (1 - 10, 10 highest)

Plates

AJP and I made these plates together. We did both M38 and A1. Fording, patent and on/off plates in addition to the standard dash mounted set.

Sorry John,

I will add you to the supplier list above.

I was talking to George a few days ago and he told me about the plates. I was needing the fording plate and so I ordered it.

Does Midwest or AJP do the stamping with the correct founts? And if so do you know how much it would cost for a full set with the stamping done. Thank you

Mario,

The fording data plate has the correct fonts and spacing. I plan on buying the other dash data plates after Christmas so I don't know about those yet.

I don't know about price, but AJP and MWM have websites with prices listed.

anyone know where I can get the plate that goes on the passenger side rear wheel well. I would like to buy it from someone that would stamp my serial number into it.

I know George at Army Jeep parts has the plate and can stamp it. I think Midwest Military does also, but I am not sure.

Stamping

Post by G740 »

Yes, both AJP and Midwest stamp plates. A charge for this service applies in addition to the cost of the plate.

I am sure there is a special tool, but it is a press fit, the back needs to be tapped.

I bought the other passenger side data plates and they look good with the lettering very original looking.

I am overall pleased.

The downside is that there is only one contract number on the serial number data plate available as of now.

My original serial number plate has a different contract number than the one on the serial number plate, so I could not use it.

Maybe in the future there will be other serial number data plates with the other contract numbers available.

Patent Plates

Saw these on Ebay. Any opinions on these. The guy says $10 for stamping. I have an original in pretty rough shape.

I've not used the "Dataplates 4 U" guy before, but the guy in Poland made these up for me (sorry, first photo is a bit blurry. I must need beer  )

He uses the acid etching (like original), not silkscreen printing. I couldn't fault his quality.

P.S. the dataplates4U has a website with more stuff on:
