Cooling question

Post by Scott21 »

The nipple for the bypass on the water pump and cylinder head have been caped with a plug. What can I use for a new nipple. Also, what is a goosd substitute for the water tubes in the radiator hoses.

Scott,

Most jeep parts dealers have new nipples for the engine head and water pump.

The top hose to the radiator is straight hose cut to length and the bottom is a molded rubber also easily obtained through parts dealers.

Just go to your auto parts store or hardware store and ask for a pair of steel 1/4"P hose nipples.

With reinforcement

Upper radiator hose

Hose

Post by ocwd »

Wes,

Is the moulded water outlet hose available at local parts places like NAPA? I noticed that you have question marks for that one.

My RMC engine came with a metal 90 degree section. Was this specific to the genset?

The metal elbow connector was common on early engines. I have the remnants of one also. The preformed rubber 90 is correct and was available at stores.

No. It is plain steel 1/4" P thread with a 1.5" hose nipple.

If I were buying 1/4" pipe nipples for this purpose, I would get one nipple threaded on both ends long enough to cut it in half and trim it so the hose would slip on over a smooth surface and not over threads.

Better to get something with a ferrule (that the hose has to fit over and onto the pipe) on rather than use threaded end and straight pipe.

For the yanks, our down under pro mechanic is referring to the raised bead on the end of the nipple that helps prevent the hose slipping off.
