Jim,

Yes, I accidentally left my on/off switch on once and hooked the battery up - there was quite a difference in spark!

Another note: always make sure your battery terminal clamps are clamped securely. A loose clamp can cause some trouble when running your 24V system as there is a lot more spark that can melt lead.

I put a big batteryswitch in the cable between the two batteries. When the jeep is not used, the switch is off and the batteries are disconected.
When i leave it on, after a 14 days my bateries seemed weaker, the voltmeter goes to the red zone during cranking. When i disconnect them in the non use period the voltmeter stays in the yellow zone during cranking. When the engine fires up, the voltmeter is in the middle of the green zone. The switch is not orignal but it saves the batteries. I still use the original 24 volt generator and big autolite regulator. Same time the switch is a good prevention for steeling the car. The m38 has no keyswitch for the ignition.
