Quick and Dirty Ring job

My friend has a 43 GPW with a later cj flathead installed that oil smokes badly. Runs smooth, 40 psi oil press, tried all the tricks for stuck rings, no help. He does not want to put much money in this engine, looking for a Ford block. Has anyone ever: Pull the piston, new rings,finsh hone the cyl, back in the hole. Will it work for a while?

yeah it will work for awhile till he gets a ford engine, id recommend new rod bearings too as I wouldnt retorque those.so basicaly he needs

1 head gasket
1 oil pan gasket
1 set of rings
1 set of rod bearings

You are counting for 4 cylinders aren't you?

You need to add a little more work in there. Mic the bores and inspect the ring grooves and lands for excess wear.

yeah i was counting 4 cylinders ive never bought a "set" of rings or bearings that didnt come in a set of 4, but yeah Wes your right he needs to mic the cylinders to make sure new rings will help if its wore in excess new rings wont help much
