Emergency Brake Binding

Post by Tarfu43 »

Hello All,

I just purchased my first M38A1, and I have a problem with the emergency brake. The previous owner installed a new brake assembly with new inside/outside pads. The problem is that the brakes bind. I've adjusted the outer pad to get the .010" clearance per the TM, but the inside brake grabs, too. What's wrong here, and how do I fix this? Are the pads too thick? How thick should they be? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Make sure the drum is clean and smooth inside and out and absolutely grease/oil free.

Also check all pivot points for wear.
