Parking Brake

On the m38a-1.....in the Sept. 1956 ORD 9 manual on page 234 Fig. 12-3....regarding the parking brake.......there is an item defined as AA - Stop - PN. SP-330150. Is this device installed permanently on the pin or is it just used to hold the pin while installing the nut and lock washer? I guess its function is evident once its all installed but just assembled on the table I fail to see its purpose. Thanks to Brent Mullins over in Aggie Land for supplying everything necessary to re-equip my jeep with an emergency brake and thanks to anyone who can explain this stop thingy to me.

Okay......duh.....never mind. Didn't even occur to me that the anchor pin was also the clearance adjusting pin......now it all makes perfect sense. But this answer has led to another issue. My center cross member skid plate is gone......and I see where a spring from the brake lever clevis is supposed to be hooked into a hole in the skid plate. Without this plate I have no place to hook the spring......so is this spring just to prevent rattling or does it prevent brake shoe dragging (and premature wear)? Also....does anyone have a good clear picture of the skid plate and possibly some dimensions? I might try to conjure one up myself since its so buried under the vehicle nobody will ever see it but me.
