M38 wiring harness
I bought a new harness with turn signal wires installed. I don't have turn signals on my jeep. I can't get the brake light to work .There is four unused wires under the dash . It seems like some of these wires must be connected to get the brake light to work. Anyone have any experience or advice?
Thanks DJ

Post a copy of the wiring kit diagram and tell us the numbers of the 4 loose wires.

Thanks Wes, I think I got it sorted out, here's what I have. One unmarked wire, comes from the switch on master cyl,one marked 22 & 460,one 22 &461 and one 460 & 461. I"ve got the umarked one connected to 22-461 and the brake light is working, does that seem right? The diagram is the same one as in the manual TM 9-8012 June 1956 page 214.
Thanks again DJ

That will only give you one brake light (either service brake left or BO brake right).

I need to think on this overnight.
Why are you not installing a turn signal switch?

If you are not concerned with judging and it usually is not an issue then the turn signals along with the two red lens on the back improve your traffic safety significantly. The larger all red Gama Goat tail light lens are even better. You can also save the high cost of the military kit and use the 24 volt signal stat civvy kit for the heavy trucks and emergency vehicles. On the front a dual filament lamp socket modification of the small in the grill lights and the M151 all yellow lens covers take care of the front signals.

I believe I found the answer after pondering over it half the night. The trailer recepticle wires will run the service and blackout stopights. So by using the trailer wiring for my stoplights I've got both my stoplights working. Apparently turn lights were not installed on trailers.
Thanks for the responses, DJ

Actually turn lamps were also added to trailers . The right light was replaced with a left lite and then a small front BO lamp was bolted above the right tail light assembly for use as the BO stop lamp. The 46x wires were added to the trailer receptacle using pins J & B.
