To gasket or not to gasket.....

Post by idiocrates »

.....that's the question. And the place I'm asking about is joining the front of the T-90 transmission to the back end of the bell housing. I'd have sworn up and down I saw a gasket for this location in my T-90 rebuild kit but now that I'm to this point in the reassembly.....I find no gasket. I did receive a gasket for the bearing retainer and its installed but there's nothing for the area where the xmission and the bell housing mate up. So...does this joint normally get a gasket? Sure seems like it would help with the cronic leak at the front of the intermediate shaft so I may just field cut one and see how it works out.

M38 early thru MC53261 (early type fording provisions) is gasket, main drive gear bearing retainer, WO# 640425, WG# T90A145B, ORD# 7697565.

M38 Late after MC53261 (Late type fording provisions) and M38A1 is gasket, case to bell housing and main drive gear (dual purpose), WO# 640351, ORD# 8329853.

These are all clearly shown in the ORD 9 SNL G-740 and -758.
