Primary Wiring Diagram

Post by bulsi »

I am attempting to get a 1951 M38 back into service. I have removed the tub and determined that the frame is OK. Now it is time to attempt to start the engine. I have been told that this is an engine from a 1953 model. It is not a flathead but and overhead valve engine. (I think a 134). If the engine runs, I will then begin the restoration process. Can someone provide me with a basic wiring diagram that will include only the battery, starter, distributor, coil, and ignition switch wire routing. The previous owner removed all of the wiring from the jeep when he decided to pull the tub off of the frame. Evenntually, I will have to do an entire wiring harness for this vehicle.(both primary and secondary) That will come later. If things go well, I will have a jeep to plow snow with and have fun. I think that it is too far modified to return to a true M38 with 24 volt electrics and the correct engine.
Thanks,
Bulsi

You've said it is not stock, needs a complete rewiring and is very modified. You alluded to the 24 volt system being gone.

We cannot offer an accurate wiring diagram for the starting, ignition and generating circuits unless we know what make/model parts you have in those systems.

So if you will list Make & model numbers for each of the following:
Starter =
Solenoid or switch =
Generator or Alternator =
Voltage regulator (If seperate from alternator)
Distributor =
Coil =
Ignition switch =

And this info as well:
1- Coil 6 or 12 volt.
2- Coil Internal or external resistor
3- Generator/Alternator/Regulator voltage and amp rating.
4- Terminal letters/numbers on back of ignition switch.
5- Solenoid if used has how many small terminals?
6- Batteries type and quantity and voltage.
