Jeep manuals from the Alaska hiway

Post by GeorgeMcKenzie »

I just bought two manuals in Dawson creek BC .One is a MA parts list TM-10-1102 1941 .What is interesting is that on the cover , at the top is 9TH CA-MMC Stockton .Then in big letters C.&I. Farther down in pencile W2040326 ,I suppose a jeep serial # . In side of the cover is a note from the War Department Washington Aug 20 1941 Some instructions than signed by G C Marshall Chief of staff Below E S Adams Major General ,The Adjant General .On the back written uper left corner 985-50-12 and the same is on the back of the second manual . The second manual is for a MB TM-10-15-12 Sept.15.1942 What would these things stand for .?They are in good condition but there is some dirty finger marks on them . I was in Dawson Creek when they were building the hiway and I over heard a conversation .where this private was telling the sargent that they got a D8 stuck just north of Ft St John .The Sarg told him to build the road over it as this would be hardest spot on the whole dam hiway .

Cool find George. I have a brother up in Dawson Creek. There is lots of wartime history up there and tons of stories about what equipment got left in the bush and got buried in the bogs and swamps along the Alaska highway :)

My neighbour had a bunch of gas barrels full of gass under a straw pile . They said that there was a 1.5 million dollars that they couldn't account for .
