Master Cylinder

Any one know the NAPA part number for M38 master cylinder. Did a search on their site with no results. Thanks, Sonny

The master cylinder from NAPA will fit and work but it will not be a M38 master cylinder.If you have an M38 with the fording vent system you'll need to hang on to your original cap.

Wes - thanks for the info - NAPA does not list the M38 so for master cylinder and wheel cylinders do you ask for a CJ3A or some other civy model part

Ask for parts for a CJ3A - that will be your closest cross...

NAPA Carries the Master Cylinder, had to replace one a couple of months ago... cost me $65...

As Wes said if you have the vent system installed keep your cap... the new one will come with a plastic cap...

In most cases you will not find MB, M38, M38A1, M37 listed in civilian parts catalogs. That is why many of us have spent years documenting which civvy parts replace which military parts adequately. When you ask the kid at the desk "Do you have a master cylinder for an M38?" and the kid replies "What's an M38? I can't find that model in my listings." That is your first clue that it is no longer useful to ask anymore about M38. Now that I have armed you with the suitable civvy part numbers for the military M38 cylinder you should only offer that kid the part number and ask if it is available. Any reference here after to m38 will confuse the kid and the issue. As for asking for other models that can be risky since you may end up with a part that just will not work for your M38. You should only take that type of risk when you cannot secure an equivalent part number for what you are looking for from your experienced restoration partners on these web sites. I cannot overemphasize the availability of a very excellent civvy to military parts comparison list published by David Spence first in many Army Motors Mags in the 70's and still carried by Portrayal Press in a compilation titled "Army Vehicle Parts Guide"
