Was trying to find the hood numbers off the new Jeep. Worked slowly on one side and thought I found some that were legible. I then moved to the other side where the paint was peeling a little more. Then i actually got lucky here. Looks like it was repainted once by the Army before the civillian paint was added. The second was on the first coat.
Then the other side.
They are the same numbers on both side. Probably old hat to all here, but still got me a little excited.
I'll get this on my survey Wes along with some more for ya tomorrow.
sorry bl, missed ur reply there. Most of it was a dull razor blade as several layers of paint are chipping. lots of hours of just chipping away. there was sanding with some 600 grit and very lite apps of some paint stripper. The 1st pic is of the stripper and sanding. The jeep was actually painted twice by the Army. The second pic is the original paint and this is the part i spent an eternitity on with a razor blade.
didn't find the star on the first layer of Army paint. I set it aside for awhile to try and get some other stuff done and regain some patcience with it. I might try and find it later, but the paint there is on pretty good. Would really like to find some unit markings.
Interesting the difference in the hood numbers from one side to the other, maybe the larger numbers are the older style number? I would go with the larger style numbers myself.
