IT IS ALIVE!

Post by rdsar2k »

I put my grill and radiator on, filled my oil gallery using the pressure gauge oil line with a rubber hose on it and pumped the oil in with a cheapie gear oil pump, hooked up two batteries on the floor to the starter, hot wired the distributor, hooked a hose up to a 5 gal gas can and choked the carb and wa la!. This thing has not ran in at least twenty years. The oil was coagulated in the pan when I dropped it and the gas lines could not be blown thru as the rotten gas had clogged those up. I was given the carberator in three different coffee cans with parts from other carbs mixed in. I litterally rebuilt every part on this thing as I didn't want to run anything with 55 year old seals and grease/oil.
It was VERY satisfying to see it run (purr I should say) with out any leaks or funny noises.
I brought my wife out as a witness and she was in my outbuilding half way accross the room before she realized it was even running.
Sweetness! It was very responsive when I accelerated; no hesitation.
Only problem; I have dislocated my elbow patting myself on the back.
Now I can put my chassis on without worrying whether or not it will run.
