Crank Pulley

Is is normal or common for a double crank pulley to get bent. Mine on my M38 wobbles like it is bent. Thanks, Sonny

Yep. 3 outa 4 of mine are bent.

Find a good one and take care of it.

I have new billet made pulley's for the jeep. Never have a bent one again this way.

Thanks fellows - unbelievable that it is that common - how do they get bent or are they just weak?

Good question.

Maybe they put the pulley guard on because rock damage to the pulley was common and after all, they are just sheet metal. If the guard failed or was left off like on many jeeps then the pulley takes the impact.

I think most happen when the engine is out and handled roughly/carelessly.

also due to over tightening the drive belts, belts do not need to be as tight as people think , this could also lead to early crank bearing failure.

Thanks again fellows for the info - I know that my engine has been out and the guard is missing so either could have been the cause

And they get bent by improper removal attempts.
