can you put a stereo in a 24volt vehicle? can you jump start off a 12v? Sorry for the newb question but I don't understand 24v.

For the easy one. . .It is simple to add a stereo. All you have to do is tap it off one of the batteries. That way, it will only use 12 Volts. What I do know about jumpiong these things will fit on the pointy end of a needle and leave room left over, but the starter will turn SLOWLY. It MIGHT work, but I would suggest you get the straight poop from someone who knows more about them. Good luck.

Jumping the 24V system from a 12V is not as simple as 12V to 12V of course.

First, if both batteries in the 24V system are NOT dead, rather, you have one weak battery - jumping from a 12V system is simply a matter of finding the weak battery. Simply place the jumper terminals across the weak battery, crank the jeep, and you're good to go.

Now, if both batteries are dead - you need two 12V systems to jump both batteries in the 24V system. Simply place the jumper cables over each individual battery. You have to be especially careful when using two 12V systems to jump both batteries - stuff gets pretty busy and you want to be careful you dont accidently short anything.

Do NOT use one 12V system to jump the 24V system by directly connecting the 12V leads to the starter. If you do this while the 24V leads are connected, bad things can happen. Now, if you disconnect the 24V and connect the 12V directly to the starter, that's not as bad, but still not recommended. The motor will turn, although not generate the rated power. Second, you'll have a hot 24V line, and with the jeep being grounded, it'll be pretty easy to short out.

Short answer: it's possible to jump. If one battery is dead, simply jump that battery. If both are dead, you need 2 12V systems. It gets busy pretty quick, so be careful.

Generally if you have enough juice for the ignition a short push will have you on your way before you can even find your jumper cables. I've even pushed these old girls by myself, jumped in then shifted her into gear and dumped the clutch and away she goes.

If you are ging to install a 12v stereo, tap the battery closest to ground...

Tap the battery under the hood and ground... otherwise you will end up with a system not grounded properly and could burn it out... I did this once in the service and lost a good radio.

One of my jeeps was owned by a government agency that installed a 24 volt to 12 inverter under the dash to power a dual pulley alternator. 12 volt turn signals and 12 volt stop lights. It also powered some kind of field radio that operated on 12 volts possibly a CB radio?

So it is a combined 24 volt and 12 volt system at the same time.
