Camshaft

Have experienced some difficulty in starting M38 after restoration & engine rebuild in USA before buying & shipping to Australia.

Discovered oil pump not in correct position preventing tuning of distributor and have rectified this with now correct tuning of distributor.

Jeep will turn over now but still wont start. Believing that camshaft may be out by 180 degrees I changed disributor leads around with very positive result and near stronger start to engine.

Question- By reversing positioning of distributor leads, can engine run normally this way with camshaft out by 180 degrees??

Several questions come to mind!

1-I find it hard to believe that an engine rebuilder would not install the cam correctly by aligning the timing marks on the gear.

2-Would a 180 out cam be synchronised with the other two cylinders?

3- Since you did not reverse the direction of the cam why did you need to reverse the direction of the firing order by reversing the rotational order of the wires? I would think one would need to advance or retard the wirin sequence to match the cam.

I suspect the jeep came to you with it's plug wires reversed and all you did was correct that error.
