turn signal question

I am wanting to get a signal stat 900 turn lever switch for my 52 m38. I have seen them with 4, 6, and 7 wires coming from the switch. What is the difference? Will any of them work (pros/cons)? Will they all work with a 24v system? Thanks, paynzer

Going back to your previous post you will want the same wire count on your new switch as the old military kit used which was 5 wires so it would probably need the 6 wire switch.

As I said in your old post any of the quality switches can be used with a 24 volt system but will need 24 volt pilot lamps and flasher. Keep in mind if you are using the old military relay box system there is no separate flasher. The flasher is one of the relays in the box.

I would suggest finding the original military switch which I have seen in some MV vendor ads recently. Especially if you intend to keep the old style relay box you ordered.

If you would rather go with a brand new civvy switch then the best choice would be the 24 volt civvy switch with the correct 24 volt civvy flasher rather than adapting a 12 volt civvy switch.

The 4 wire switches are for use where the turn signal lamps will be dedicated only to the turn signal function. The 6. 7 & up wire counts will handle the use of turn signal lamps that are also used for stop lamp function.

Each of my gama goat tail lights has 3 wires coming from them. Will I use 1 of these for my turn signal light only?

The only military signal switches I can find use the solid state flasher and canon plug type wiring harness. Do you know of any vendors that have the type with the numbered wires built in with ring terminals like the old Spartan style?

Also, the 3 wires coming from the back of the gama goat tail lights are numbered 21, 22, and 460/461.

numbered 21, 22, and 460/461

21 - Light switch (HT) to service tail lamp
22 - Light switch (S) to service stop lamp
22-460 - Turn signal switch to right rear stop lamp
22-461 - Turn signal switch to left rear stop lamp
23 - Light switch (BS) to blackout stop lamp
24 - Light switch (BHT) to blackout tail lamp
460 - Turn indicator circuit, right, front signal/marker lights
461 - Turn indicator circuit, left, front signal/marker lights

The Gama Goat lamp's have no Black Out lamps in them so 23 and 24 do not apply. So you will have a wire 21 to both rear parking lamps, a 22 wire to both rear stop lamps and a 460 from the turn signal system to the right rear and from the turn signal system to the right front. You will have a 461 from the turn signal system to the left rear and left front.

Have you tried all the vendors listed in Supply Line and Military Vehicle Magazine? The heavy truck vendors seem to have these more often.
