Military License PLate

hey every one.
I have an opportunity to buy a license plate that the seller thinks is vintage military. The plate is red with "USA" accross the top and the plate numbers are "M-8108". That is all that is on the plate.
Can anyone tell me what it is and if it has value. I am restoring an early M38 and may be interested in running this plate if it fits that vintage.
