ross steering lubrication

Post by wtb853 »

I am curious what everyone's take is on the proper lube for a ross steering gear box on an M38. One answer I have seen on a couple of sites is a 50:50 mix of 90W and 140W gear oil to get the proper "gloop". Is this accurate? Any other suggestions?

GL4 rated gear oil. 90 to 140 weight. Note GL-5 rated fluids have a high sulpher additive that attacks non-ferous metals such as bushings. If you have 90 to 140 gear oil in the box and she leaks the only smart thing to do is rebuild the box.

steering box lube

Post by captw »

I've had my steering box apart, checked over, then reassembled and set up using the manual's recommendations...I'm using John Deere cornhead lube which is designed for low speed, extreme pressure gear boxes...I use this stuff in the front knuckles also...W
