M38A1 Body to Frame Bolt locations

Post by Nic »

Hello all

I'm ready to take the body off the above Jeep. I have removed 4x bolts
from the rear cross member, 2x bolts from the cargo bed, 2x bolts from the front footwells, 1x bolt from the storage box under the passenger seat.

I have noticed 2 more bolts on a cross member forward of the rear wheels is there anymore?, I thought there was 12, I have looked in various manuals but can't find anything pertaining to the above.

Can someone point me in the right direction of a manual?

Many thanks in advance

Humm
The manual is TM9-8015-2 Power train, Body and Frame and I am almost sure I downloaded it from this site but I don't see it there. I see the changes (suppliments) there. In that manual is a layout for the frame showing all the bolt locations and instructions on how to remove the body.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have the TM9-8015-2 ( Suppliments) The only one I have with any pictures of the frame or underside is for the M170 Ambulance, I shall endeavour to keep looking both under the Jeep and here on the website.

Many Thanks once again

Regards

One note of caution Nic, 1L and 1R uses a rubber pad on top of the frame rail between the rail and tub but no bolts go there. The tabs that hang down the outboard sides of the frame rails get the bolts and a piece of rubber pad goes between them and the side of the frame rail.

When mounting the tub you go with the hardware and pads listed in the ORD 9 SNL G-758 parts manual and install them all without using any nuts on any of the bolts. You get the tub square with the rear cross member and then temp install the front sheetmetal and check and tweak as needed until the fenders and hood and grill are all aligned and the tub is still square with the rear cross member then add the nuts and tighten things up for the tub. Be sure to monitor the floor openings for alignment with the steering column and pedals.

Thanks once again Wes

It will be a few months before the body goes back onto the frame, but every little bit of advice will be logged and saved until the time comes when it is needed.
