bellhousing-clutch fork

I am down to the small stuff on fixing up an m38 and have the drive train together but I need to call on someone that has more real world experience. The rectangular opening in the bellhousing for the clutch fork looks to me like it should have a boot in it. If it does and they still exist, I can't find one. Talked to Herm and other suppliers I have used with no luck. Mr Walck said he doesn't have one and that they might not even have ever been available and to go ahead and run it "It won't hurt anything." I have been known to get into deep water ocassionally and the thought of the bellhousing being half full of creek water gives me heart burn. What say you?

The parts and repair manuals are available here as a free download. The parts manual is where I got these pics. I think you are refering to "F"
Might try the good guys at Midwestmil.com or Debella jeep parts or Army jeep parts or mullins jeep parts. If it is the cover that has 6 bolts holding it on (later version) then those are available readily. It would be the same as the M38a1 clutch inspection cover. All the guys listed should have it.

Thanks rdsar2k for the information. I hadn't thought of Mullins so I'll call them in the morning. The part I am looking for isn't in the picture you posted. It is the 3 inch x 1.5 inch opening where the clutch fork goes into the bellhousing that I am hoping to close up as much as possible.

The late bell housing clutch opening was handled like this.

Here you can see the early bell had no bellows but can utilize a grommet.

This may be your problem!

The civvy bell housing has the large rectangular opening for which there is no seal.
