I have just about completed my survey sheet for my M38 and the question I have is Engine serial # my block has been decked and the only numbers I can see are hand stamped 3117 they are not in a straight line or evenly spaced. There are no tags on the block for a rebuild. This is the only peice of information that I cannot give a good solid answer to. Every other question is answered in full. I hope this peice of info will be alright, I want to give an accurate survey.
Thanks Rob

Hello Rob,
That's a common problem with the Willys blocks. Next time you are near a machine shop get a small bag of fine ferrous shavings and spread them in a thin layer across the serial number space on the block then magnetize that area with a magnet. If you are lucky you'll be able to make out the outline of the original number.
