53 M38A1 which front bumper

Post by smokey1 »

Have a 53' M38A1 that has early fenders w/ seam, hinged front grill, battery box cover that is bolted in place. Missing front bumper and wondering if it should have a short front bumper or long for this period?

That said, who re-manufactures the best short/long front bumpers these days?

Thanks in advance.

Bumper

Your's is considered the early model. I would use the shorter. Midwestmil makes an outstanding bumper. I believe alot of the venders sell his. That being said the long or short is correct as they were both used as replacements in the stock system and either could end up on the jeep during service life. Both of my 1955 M170's had short bumpers that had alot of miles on them.

Excellent info and thank you for the vendor info. I'll contact them about purchasing a short. I like the look of the short bumper better as well.
