M38 voltage regulator

Post by rwbow1969 »

My M38 is in beautiful shape but, when I look under the hood I see this solid state flat top regulator with these phillip head screws. A freind of mine has an old mechanical one correct to the year, but he said he couldn't get it adjusted right. My question is there an old style regulator with solid state guts inside for dependability if so, who and where can this be acquired from. Thanks again, Rob

No. The 6 volt WWII jeep guys have a kit available for their regulator. You could inquire with that kit builder. However you could transplant the later Transistor regulator guts to an early mechanical housing. Or you could approach an auto electric shop and ask if they can recommend a modern 24 volt 25 amp regulator that would work with the stock generator.
