Ya I know its a engine mounting plate, I am just confused by the guy's listing as he states its off a 3A but with a chain drive timing setup. To my knowlegde chain driven engine got phased out in the 2A models and never made it to the 3A. To me, I'm sure its just a 3A plate (gear driven) given the dog ears are opposite directions. No, i dont have any dimensions.
Thanks
The side with the square hole is for fuel pump clearance. The flange forward or rearward is not there, or bent flat?????? You are correct on the timing chain. Got me on the rest. John
Im not sure what you mean by flange? Are you talking about the tabs that face forward and backward that mount to the actual motor mounts? There are there and bent correctly.
Also how does the timing cover seal over that square hole anyway?
The grey paint made it hard to see, but yes the flat or flange is bent forward, I see it now. The timing cover has a fairly wide flat and the gasket bridges the square hole under the covers flange. When together you see the gasket in the square hole. That is a 3A or 3B front engine plate. CJ5 also. I think the reason it went forward instead of back like the MB or 2A was to clear the double acting fuel pump lower half. I've read where guys get their whole engine done only to find they have the wrong front engine plate and have to change it out after new gaskets and painting Pain! John
The issue with M38 vs the civvy Willys front plates that have the same ear arrangement as the M38 is the size of the opening for the fuel pump and the beefed up generator mounting hole.
