Gas Heater question.

Post by ECVJeeps »

Can the exhaust be re-routed on the South Wind 978-M gas heaters to allow them to fit on an M38?
I now have this heater and am toying with the idea of installing it on my wife's M38.

I will clean that up tonight when i get home and get you a better picture. I haven't really looked it over that well, I just noticed that the exhaust is routed out the oposite side as the M38 pics that I have seen.
The flex pipe appears to be brass.

Great, then I can offer you a few options. The exhaust adapter is bolted to the bottom of the mounting plate and you may be able to reclock it to exist the opposite end.

The heater itself is correct model for M38. The mounting plate, adapter plate and exhaust are vehicle specific but it looks like all that needs to be done is to obtain the correct M38 mounting plate and adapter plate or re-index the exhaust to the adapter plate to exit on the opposite side. You will also need the 45 degree angled blower outlet that connects to large hose that goes in the vent panel on the windshield. Do you have necessary publications? These are the other two parts to the unit.

When I get some spare time I will have to restore this thing and see if I
can re-clock the exhaust to the other side.
Then pick up some ducting and the parts to the inside of the jeep.

Thanks Wes
