STARTER REAR PLATE CLOCKED OPPOSITE

IVE GOT A 24V CLOSED NOSE STARTER ON THE SHELF THAT
I INTEND TO KEEP AS A SPARE. WHATS ODD IS THAT THE
REAR PLATE IS CLOCKED AT THE 1 OCLOCK POSITION
INSTEAD OF 7 OCLOCK LIKE THE ONE ON MY L134.

1. IM THINKING THE REAR PLATE CAN BE RECLOCKED
W/O TOO BIG A HEADACHE, RIGHT?
2. WAS IT CLOCKED OPPOSITE FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE
APPLICATION? IF SO CAN SOMEONE ENLIGHTEN ME??

Is that an M37 Dodge starter that mounts on the driver's side of the engine? What model number is it? Which direction is the nose case aimed in?

THE ONLY OTHER NUMBER ON THE DATA PLATE IS
SPEC NO. AXS-1851

IT LOOKS IDENTICAL TO MY INSTALLED STARTER IN ALL RESPECTS
EXCEPT FOR THE REVERSED CLOCKING. MAYBE BUBBA TOOK IT APART
AND FORGOT HOW TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER :roll:

AXS-1851 is the MIL Spec for a 24 volt starter but there are several part numbers it covers. The number directly below that Mil Spec number is the Manufacturer's part number.

RECLOCKED THE REAR PLATE-PIECE OF CAKE.
REMOVED THE 6 SCREWS ON THE REAR PLATE,
REMOVED THE 4 SCREWS HOLDING THE BRUSH
CARRIER TO THE REAR PLATE, ROTATED THE REAR
PLATE 90 DEG, RESET THE BRUSH CARRIER ON THE
ROTATED REAR PLATE. FASHIONED 4 SMALL WIRE
CLIPS TO RETRACT THE BRUSH SPRINGS, ONCE THE
BRUSHES WERE IN PLACE I PULLED THE CLIPS AND
THE BRUSHES SNAPPED IN PLACE. HOOKED UP TO 24V
AND SPUN LIKE A TOP. NOW I HAVE A WORKING SPARE
STARTER ON MY PARTS SHELF. GOOD DEAL..

PS: WHEN I CLEANED IT UP I FOUND IN FADED FELT
MARKER ON THE NOSE M-38 A-1. THE MYSTERY IS STILL
WHY WAS THE REAR PLATE CLOCKED OPPOSITE? WE MAY
NEVER KNOW (CUE IN TWILITE ZONE THEME) :lol:
