Tcase front output shaft play

Post by Bretto »

Upon re-assembling my D18, I noticed that the front output shaft has about 1/8" in and out play to it. Is this normal? I didn't notice it before but then I wasn't looking for it. There is no side to side play and bearing is snug with the snap ring in place. My thinking now is when I go and put on the yoke, it should keep it up against the bearing.

I believe that is a non-issue. As you said when the yokes go on the play will go away. Note there aren't any axial play limits published anywhere for it. It is important though to have the front output cover installed before you set the clearance on the rear output bearing since the front end bearing of the rear output sets up against the front cover.
