"Jeep" Script Logo on Front of Tool Box

I have two M38 tubs. One is a 1951 and the other is a 1952. The 1952 tub has the scrirt but the 1951 does not. When did they start puting the script logo on M38 tubs?

Maybe I didn't look hard enough. There is a couple of layers of paint on it. I'll try some paint stripper and see if I missed it. That tub is coming apart anyway so I can harvest some panels off it.

if the logo and louvers is missing it may be a repop toolbox..

A lot of the Canadian M38's came without the logo on the front of the tool box.
I have since heard that a few of the very early 2135 M38's in Canada had the logo.
It would be nice to find out just how many had the logo or what serial number the change was made.

All the Willys built M38's had the "Jeep" logo on the front vertical surface of the passenger seat tool box.

The batch of M38's turned over to the Canadian Army by the US army before the Ford Windsor production began had the logo as well. I think it was the integration of these jeeps into the Canadian m38 family that caused the confusion on the logo placement.

The general consensus today is Canadian Ford Windsor built M38's did not have the logo.

My Jan '51 has the logo

I went out and checked the 1951 tub. The tool box has the louver but no Jeep script. The box looks original with flaking OD paint covered by yellow paint. I was told by the previous owner that it is a 1951 tub so it may be later. My 52 tub has the logo.

That box can be replaced in 1976 when the jeep was 25 years old and today that 35 year old box would look original.

If you do not have the "Jeep" logo on the front of the passenger seat toolbox then you either have a M38CDN tub or an aftermarket replacement tool box or a M38 that had the front of the box cut for the hot water heater kit and then was repaired by welding a new flat piece of stock in when the heater was removed.

For some reason, yellow is a popular color for these old Jeeps. My 52 was also painted yellow after it left service.

On another note, I have a 1952-ish M38A1 on my side yard. The tool box has the louver but no logo. Must have been a fairly common thing to have the tool box replaced with a non-logo box. This A1 was a USMC Jeep.

I am curious about the tubs used for the M38s...Were there more than one M38 body style that was used in American or Canadian jeeps? Was there anything on a tub that would distinguish it to be Canadian?

I know of the changes in the dash (for the heater) the firewall holes, and the toolbox (script and toolbox clip) and data plates. were there any others?

I am also curious about the yellow paint...I found a M38 tub with yellow paint underneath, I thought that it was possibly the paint underneath from the armed forces. There were data plates, or serial behind the passenger seat.

No. One basic tub style was used for all production M38's with minor changes incorporated in it during the production run Sep 50 thru Jul 52. It seems you are already familiar with those minor changes.

Just the convoy lamp, the lack of the Willys script, the empty four holes for the Willys patent plate.

Yellow was a common color used on flight line vehicles.
