Puller 41-P-2956-4

Post by AeroE »

I’ve been looking for a current commercial substitute for puller 41-P-2956-4 for timing and crankshaft gears with no joy. The issue seems to be the jaw size & length. Does anyone know of a Snap-On/Proto/NAPA or other puller that positively works? Or, is there a supplier with the real thing?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks-Grainger carries this. Expensive, but you need the right tool for the job.

Willys-Itis is a disease we all have. You can't do just one. So every new tool will get several uses.

I found good prices and good service from ToolTopia.com
They have the puller Wes listed: http://www.tooltopia.com/otc-tools-4534.aspx

Pinion Seal Puller

Post by ocwd »

This is off topic but it looks like the original question was answered. Has anyone purchased a pinion seal puller? I need to change the pinion seals on my Dana 25 and Dana 44. What does the puller look like?

Thats what I use.
You can buy one of these but Im not sure you can use it with the pinion in place. Maybe there is some type up puller that has jaws that slip behind the seal and pull from the end of the pinion.

I usually drill two small holes in the seal and screw in two self tapping screws then use a small slide puller on the two screws.

The puller set Wes recommended arrived from Grainger and a test fit indicates it should work fine on crankshaft gear and timing gear. For another use I’m going try it on the steering wheel.

The plan is to use a commercial plumbing fitting called a ‘riser clamp’ that is used to secure piping through a concrete floor.

example: http://www.pipingtech.com/products/ptpc ... fig190.htm

This would bolt around the steering column behind the wheel, and the puller attach to its two arms. I’ll let you know if it works.

I thought about using a riser clamp as well. Before I could libertate one from the office, I remembered I had an open end wrench that was just the right size. One thing I messed up was that I bell mouthed my steering shaft just a little bit with my puller. Luckily I caught it befor it was non-repairable. My father in law chucked it up in the lathe and now I'm ready to go.
